Grand Prize Winners Anne & Chris Porecca
In 1999 my sports fanatic boyfriend and I planned to visit friends in Boston for Super Bowl weekend. We drove to Logan airport to pick up another couple who were supposed to be flying in for the weekend. We went to a bar in the airport and ordered drinks while we waited for the flight to arrive. Suddenly, my boyfriend threw my passport down on the bar. I asked him why he had my passport. Then he placed two plane tickets in front of me. Extremely confused, I asked him who they were for. He told me they were for us. I looked at them and they said Dublin, Ireland. Shocked, I asked him when we were going. He told me we were boarding in an hour. One hour later we boarded a plane to Dublin, Ireland. We spent three amazing days and nights in Ireland and on the last night he took me to St. Stephen's Green in Dublin and asked me to marry him. I knew it was true love not only because of the amazing surprise trip he planned for us, but also because he was willing to miss the Super Bowl. I said "yes" of course.
2nd Place Winners Tim & Britta Washburn
My most romantic moment came when my husband (now) proposed to me. It has been over 2 years now and I still remember it like it was yesterday and get butterflies in my stomach whenever I think about that day. It was December 29,2007. We made plans to have his parents come to my parent's camp for the first time. We all made dinner together that afternoon. The dinner was great and it was a good opportunity for our families to get to know each other better. After dinner my sister and I did the dishes and my then boyfriend - (my now husband) came to the kitchen to let me know we were going to play scrabble with both of our moms. We were walking toward the table and he handed me the "x" scrabble piece. He lifted off the top to the scrabble game and there were letters on the board that spelled out Britta, will you marry me? Yes or no." By the time I finished reading it he was down on one knee. Of course I said yes and it was even captured on video. It was the last thing I expected that day but it was amazing.
3rd Place Winners Skip & Donna Smaldone
I remember life before her, but just barely. It's all kind of a blur up until that day... May 17, 1992... the day my life began to have clarity and purpose. I was a single Dad. had made many poor choices, and was doing my best to raise my 7-year-old son on my own. I put dating aside and refocused my priorities. Well-meaning friends tried to set me up on dates but I remained focused. They joked and asked, "What... do you think God'sjust going to drop a woman in your lap?" For a long list of reasons, I shouldn't have been at that Glens Falls church that night (for one, I didn't even attend the church!) But there I was, standing in a back pew, singing, when suddenly -- a girl abruptly bumped into me as she attempted to squeeze by. She caught me so off-guard, she inadvertently knocked me into the pew... and fell right into my lap! As you can imagine, I was taken by the destiny of our encounter. I smiled. She smiled back. A year and a half later, that girl became my wife, making me the happiest man in the world.
