  • Layers

Posted on August 31, 2012 by admin

    bon jour my Dahlin' Divas,

Diva Debra here with more o my fashion tidbits to titillate & excite you!

I'm here to advise you that layers are a many splendored thing!  And of course one good layer deserves another, and another, and another. Donkey from Shrek says, "parfaits have layers.  I like parfaits." Debra says,"necklaces can be layered.  I like necklaces."    I personally love layering my gold and silver neckchains to create a varied and interesting sparkling "Bib" to many of my outfits. Simply start with your shortest chain and continue adding longer & longer lengths until your inner Diva becomes unleashed.

    Layers and more layers

I find layering  adds excitement to a plain tee & extra pizzazz to a printed top, just make sure the printed top is not "over the top"! Keep the print small, or geometric, or color blocked.  A wild  Hawaiian floral print is NOT the perfect top to wear with a many layered look, unless it's made with live flowers!

The longer the top, the longer the lengths layered look  lavish. Keep the layers going & stop the longest layer at the hemline.  If you're dressed in a dress, stop the longest layer where it's comfortable.  My longest necklace stops at mid thigh, but I tend to push the envelope!  No surprise there!

Layering also works well with beaded necklaces in the same color family as well as strands and strands and strands of pearls.  Black & white pearls strands look elegant and classic on any LBD and tres Hot on a little red dress!

So Divas what are you waiting for???  If it feels good, wear it!

  • Whoops!

Posted on August 17, 2012 by admin

The five proposals listed here would generally be considered wonderfully romantic, creative ways to pop the question…if not for the fact that—because of nervousness, poor planning, and sheer bad luck—the ring went missing, and the couple spent the first hours of their engagement in a panic trying to find it. But, you ask, does that occur very often? It’s happened at least five times, as you will see in the very strange stories below:

    1. The Sewer (2011)

Colorado resident John Iverson had just proposed to his girlfriend in on Valentine’s Day on the sidewalk. All very sweet, until the ring tumbled from his hand, rolled across the road, and landed in a nearby sewer, spoiling the romance just a tiny bit. Firefighters were called, and after 45 minutes combing through subterranean muck, the family heirloom was finally located. And so, the hopefully non-symbolic episode ended with Iverson belatedly bestowing the symbol of his affection—though he likely cleaned it first.

    2. The Helium Balloon (2008)

Londoner Lefkos Hajji had clever idea for a proposal. He would place an engagement ring in a balloon, and his would-be wife would puncture it so she would “literally pop the question.” But in the end, only his hopes were burst. The wind blew the elaborate visual pun away, and though Hajji chased after it for an hour, his £6,000 ring was lost to the heavens. He later told The Sun: “I felt like such a plonker,” adding that his bride-to-be “is refusing to speak to me until I get a new ring.”

    3. The Hot Air Balloon (2009)

If people learn anything from this list, it’s that diamonds and balloons don’t mix. Pastor James Ng, 26, of Burton, Ohio, planned to propose during a hot air balloon ride, and hid the 1 ct. diamond engagement ring he bought on top of his camera case. But once aloft, the case fell out of the 500-foot-high balloon and landed in a tree, causing all its contents to spill out. Still, with a little help from Google Maps, after a week trudging through nearby forests, Ng finally located the case, which miraculously held only one item—the ring. His second, non-airborne proposal went off without a hitch, and his intended commented that the ring fit perfectly.

    4. The Sand (2012)

California doctor Steve Carr—who, as almost every headline writer pointed out, is a brain surgeon—had his own clever proposal idea (we’re sensing a pattern here): While on vacation to Naples, Fla., he would hide the ring in the sand on the beach and have his lady-love dig for it. Well, it would have been a clever idea, if he'd remembered where he had hidden it. But he didn’t, and he and his intended had to recruit a dozen volunteers—and eventually, a ring-finding service they found on the Internet—to unearth the missing sparkler. Which it did, after a few hours, leading his obviously very understanding fiancée to say: “It’s never leaving my finger again.”

    5. The Brooklyn Bridge (2009)

When Don Walling set out to pop the question on the Brooklyn Bridge, he probably didn’t expect he would end up climbing down part of the famed landmark. Before he could ask his bride-to-be for her hand, the ring fell out of his—straight onto the road below. And so Walling scurried down the outside of the bridge, attracting the attention of a police Suicide Watch van, who thought he was surely about to jump. When he explained the situation, the cops held off, and the New York City schoolteacher managed to find the ring, which had originally belonged to his fiancée’s great-grandmother. In the video below, his impressed mother-in-law says of Walling: "He will obviously jump off bridges for [our daughter]." True—but is that really a good thing?

  • GRRRRRRR!

Posted on July 26, 2012 by admin

    Dahlin' Divas,
Have you noticed all the wild animals prowling around in the fashion world?  No, not THOSE animals...animal prints!  Lions and tigers and zebras, oh my!  Do wear a wild animal print dress or coat but when doing so, keep the accessories caged.  Plain one color shoes and bags, plain color for fingernails & tootsies, and plain gold or silver jewelry will tame those beasts.

    A touch of gold!

Afraid of big cats (or zebras)?   Then keep them at bay and go for "The Look" with a few touches of purrfectly placed wild prints.  Pump up the volume with cougar pumps, cougar print scarves, and a cougar bag.  Or a zebra print watch strap with a zany zebra clutch, the ever fashionable  scarf  around the neck or waist, and topped off with black and white diamond jewelry will do just fine, thank you very much!  A word of caution, keep those animals accents in the same pride or you could end up looking zoo-ey.

    Dare to Dangle

    .
And Divas, do you just wanna have fun with these oversized kitty- kats?  How 'bout a cat of a different color?  Some of these beasts have been to beauty school & dyed their coats a hot color to capture our attention.   Let's rumble in the jungle and on the streets wearing purple panther prints!  It'll bring out the wildebeest in every Diva!  I'm lovin' the summertime sizzle of these fun feline frills, hope you are too!  I'm not lion!  (you all knew I just had to get that in somewhere!)

    Purple Please!

    .
    So 'till next time, Mwah!
    Your Fashion Stylist,
    Diva Debra

  • l'orange

Posted on June 22, 2012 by admin

    My Dear Divas,

Now we all know that l'orange is THE summer color in which to be seen & the good news is that yes, there is a shade for all skin colors!  WHEW, that news must ease your fashion conscious minds!  But think about it & it makes sense.  "Spring  & Autumn" golden/olive hued fashionistas look glowing in peaches, corals, & citrus tints of l'orange.  And the "Winter & Summer" rosy toned lovelies fairly pop in a orange shade laced with a touch of pink.  Let's call it p'orange!

    l'Orange

Too shy to drench yourself in The Minute Maid color of the summer???  Well, why not add a pop or two or three of l'orange to your existing wardrobe?  A lacy or floaty scarf;, with a clutch (the must have bag of the summer) or wristlet; with hot paprika sandals; a half dozen  coral colored freshwater pearl bracelets; & a funky fun fashion watch will put you in the spotlight!

    It's Summer Time

Citrus adds spark to just about any and every color, think of it with plain tantalizing tans, pretty pinks, tumultuous turquoise, brazen browns, wonderful whites, even great greys, and don't leave out glowing greens!  I must admit I prefer to wear it with black only around October 31st.  But to each her own.

Come on girls,  we just wanna have fun!  Let's start NOW!!!  Before we know it the summer will be over!

    Life is short, EMBRACE!

    Diva Debra,

    Your fashion stylist.

PS: My next Viva La Diva Fashions Home Shopping Party is this Wednesday, July 11, from 6:30 to 8:00. Please Come.

  • Vegas Baby!

Posted on June 9, 2012 by admin

    BonJour  Darlin' Divas,

Just got back from SanFrancisco & Las Vegas for a buying excursion for Viva La Diva Fashions!  And let me tell you right now...not everything that happens in Vegas stays in Vegas! 'cause I bought some fantastic Diva jewelry & accessories that are coming to Hometown USA!!!!   Which means another home shopping party so that I can share all my goodies with vous! Please join us at 10 Ridge St. in Downtown Glens Falls on July 11. We'll be drinking champagne with strawberries from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.

For more info call me at 793-0151.

I was delighted to find that my passion for lace is still very much in vogue both in jewelry & clothing.  All colors are hot, or do I mean cool?, for the good ole summertime.  Saw lots of fun fashions like colored jeans worn with just a tee & kicked up a few notches with a wonderful lacy scarf worn 'round the neck or the waist.

Mix, never match, vivid color blocking clothes & multi-color chunky earrings, bracelets & necklaces.  Yep, you read that right...necklaces!  More is more & less is well, simply Bor-ing!  Think Coco Chanel gone 60's hippie chic.  And why not???  Our inner Diva is finally out of our closets, after years of yearning to be free!  We MUST embrace her with open arms and adorn her!

So Darlin' Divas I bid you adieu until the next newsletter.  And remember to lavish yourself in lace!

    Your Fashion Stylist,

    Diva Debra
