  • Super Bowl Survival

Posted on February 4, 2012 by admin

After our Super Sunday Sale, what's next? Here's an idea. Log into Pinterest. Pinterest is like an electronic, 2012 version of the cork bulletin board I had in my room when I was a teenager. I would cut out quotes, beauty tips, pictures of my favorite celebrities, etc. out of magazines and newspapers.

The same concept applies in the case of Pinterest, but instead of being visible only to the handful of friends who entered my room, millions of people online can see it.

On Pinterest, you can search by keyword -- say, jewelry or rings or Super Bowl -- and see the items other users have pinned because they want to do make, see, do or buy them. You can then re-pin them to your own boards. And, just like Twitter, you can “follow” your friends, customers or simply people whom you think post interesting content.

Pinterest also lets you pin things from outside websites, such as this beautiful Hearts On Fire Heart Pendant, and stack of Diamond Bands, or this pretty Amethyst.

So in between commercials on Super Sunday you can cozy up to your iPad or laptop and put stuff on your cork board or explore others. It may be the most fun you have ever had at a football game.

  • Engagement Ring Season

Posted on December 27, 2011 by admin

An awful lot of folks will be getting engaged between now and Valentine's Day. While fun and exciting, this first major diamond purchase can also be overwhelming for many couples. To share insight into what real women want – and more importantly, what men should know when it comes to buying engagement rings –  Hearts On Fire developed an infographic from available sources around the industry. See below.

    A few fun highlights include:

    • Round and square shaped diamonds are by far the most popular center stone shape, with more than 90% of brides choosing this shape.

    • Cut is the most important of the “4 C’s” when it comes to choosing a diamond.

    • 65% of future brides are involved in the purchasing process and 31% help choose their own ring.

    • 2 in 5 grooms purchase from a local, independent jewelry store and 1 out of 9 grooms purchase their engagement ring online.

    • 76% of men still get down on one knee to propose, and 43% plan the proposal down to every last detail.

    • 33% say don’t bother proposing without a diamond ring!

  • Holiday Blues?

Posted on December 18, 2011 by admin

No matter what you do this holiday season, just remember….its not worth fighting, tears, aggressive driving and pushing over others in the mall.

    1. Be flexible – This is an extremely hard one for me to get. I love the holidays and my family, and I hardly ever get to see all the people that I love so much.  I want to be in Germany with Ryan and Judith,  in Florida with Kelly and Michael, and in Glens Falls with Casey and Eric and all of our grandchildren and friends. But we can't do it all. So, enjoy the people you are with. Because when everyone around you feels good, you will too, no matter where you are.

    2. Get organized. It may seem silly, but simply sitting down and planning out your weekend activities or holiday gift list can help beyond belief. Just this weekend I was able to get all of my gifts bought, decorate my house, and so much more – giving us time to do step #3!

    3. Relax and enjoy – it’s the holiday season and that means there are opportunities to do things you can’t do at other times! Go ice skating or take a ski trip, go out on a chilly day and drink hot chocolate at North Country Coffee Cafe, or stay at home and light candles and bake cookies. Whatever you do…indulge a little. Relax a lot. Because these special moments will make you feel happy and in love all over again.

I know I’m going to make sure my holidays are full of cheer this year.

    Are we having fun yet?

  • Dreaming

Posted on December 4, 2011 by admin

Dreams of sugar plums dancing in my head. But what is left after the last crumb and the last swallow? Wonderful memories and a ring to help trigger those memories for a lifetime.

More and more couples are shopping together to find the perfect diamond and style of ring to represent their love for each other and the moments they have shared. Take a minute to think about why you’re buying that diamond. Most likely, you want a beautiful diamond that will sparkle with perfection, a diamond that means something. A diamond that has value and shouts emotion.

For over 35 years Chris Scoville has studied diamonds, fascinated by the explosion of beauty by a few and the lifelessness of the majority of the thousands of diamonds he has examined. Your ring will be the most romantic gift of your lifetime. We get that, and that is why we are eager to share his insider knowledge on the secrets of sparkle.

Write to me and tell me about the ring you are dreaming about. Dreams can come true.

  • Giving

Posted on November 24, 2011 by admin

Leigh Anne Tuohy says its best. “People always talk about how much Michael benefited from coming into our home. But think about it…isn’t Christmas the best time of the year? A time of love and giving and pure happiness? So why don’t we celebrate Christmas the rest of the year if it makes us feel so good? We may have given Michael a home, but he gives us an opportunity to celebrate Christmas every single day.”

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! And thank you to the Tuohys for inspiring us all.

  • Why shop local?

Posted on November 14, 2011 by admin

You hear a lot about buying local, here is what that means at Scoville Jewelers, just like it has for the past 59 years.
$68 of every $100 you spend stays in this community. Look even closer, say you spend less than $100, 68 cents of every single dollar goes right back into our local economy through taxes, payroll, donations and more. The local spending habits of the Scoville Team grow that figure even more. Now, if you spend $100 at a national chain store, only $43 stays here. Guess what happens if you spend it with an out of town online store. Nothing comes home.
Thank you for helping sustain another small business that gives back to the community.
